Description

The Rosemount 3051SAL Liquid Level Transmitter System is a flexible, 2-wire 4-20mA HART architecture that calculates differential pressure (DP) electronically using two pressure sensors that are linked together with a non-proprietary electrical wire.

Ideal applications for the 3051SAL ERS System include tall vessels and distillation columns that have traditionally required long lengths of capillary or impulse piping. When used in these types of applications, the 3051S ERS System can deliver:

  • More accurate and repeatable DP measurements
  • Faster time response
  • Simplified installations
  • Reduced maintenance

Here's how some of our customers use this product...

Measuring Level and Static Pressure at Very Low Temperatures

The Background: Our customer is NASA. They seek a means of measuring the level and static pressure of liquid oxygen, methane, and nitrogen in tanks that are about 5' high.

The Problem: Temperatures of liquid oxygen, methane, and nitrogen range from -250F to -295°F while pressures in the tanks range from 500 to 800psi. These low temperatures are outside the range of all pressure transmitters we carry.

The Solution: We suggested using impulse piping to convert the liquid into a gaseous state at manageable temperatures and measuring the level with Rosemount 3051SAL liquid level transmitters.

The impulse piping would be installed at a 30° slope with 2ft of tubing and then up 1ft where the high side of the transmitter would be connected. A tuned-system capillary assembly was used to measure the static pressure on the same unit. Running the low side tubing past the transmitter would prevent moisture build-up.

The 3051SAL met all the hazardous requirements as well.
