The state of the art Practical Instruments Electronics (PIE) PIECAL334 loop calibrator is a highly reliable, rugged, and easy to use milliamp calibrator. The PIECAL334 loop calibrator has the functions necessary to perform the most demanding maintenance and field calibration tasks of virtually any 4-20mA loop. The PIECAL334 loop calibrator provides source and read milliamp functions along with power and measure and two wire transmitter simulations. In addition, the PIECAL334 loop calibrator measure DC Voltage for troubleshooting power supplies.
The PIECAL334 loop calibrator is functionally equivalent to similar calibrators with four digit displays, knobs, and switches. The PIECAL334 loop calibrator, however, gives users the advantage of updated design, better long term stability, accuracy, reliability while maintaining the familiar, time proven reliability, and ease of use of similar calibrators.
The PIECAL334Plus loop calibrator provides the benefits and functionality of the PIECAL334 loop calibrator while including other advanced features unique to PIE calibrators. The PIECAL334Plus loop calibrator features patented loop diagnostic technology allowing users to easily find current leaks to ground, deteriorating & damp insulation or corroded terminals. Automated stepping (2, 3 or 5 steps) and ramping lets users set the PIECAL334Plus loop calibrator at one instrument and check any other point in the loop. The PIECAL334Plus loop calibrator includes a 5 digit display to 20.000mA giving users better resolution and better calibrations. A built-in backlight helps in low light conditions.

Detecting Milliamp Leaks
The Background: Our customer is the maintenance supervisor for an industrial facility. The maintenance crew had been plagued by a series of zero shifts in a 4-20mA transmitter that had been recently installed. They seek a means of testing the loop to find the problem.
The Problem: During routine testing, the maintenance crew had found the transmitter off by 0.5mA. Thinking is was simply a zero shift, a zero adjustment was made. When subsequent testing found the problem repeating itself, the transmitter was replaced but this didn’t solve the problem.
The Solution: We suggested the PIE 334 Plus loop calibrator which features PIE’s patented milliamp leak detection. The customer discovered current leakage of 0.5mA which indicated a ground loop issue.
