In a world that requires connectedness to stay at the top of our game, we are always on the lookout for the next best thing. When it comes to connectivity in the gas industry, these applications often require devices that not only exchange data often and easily, but that also save time with intuitive setup and menu navigation, readily available concentration readings, and the most up-to-date technologies. Accessing information quickly and easily increases ease of use and often decreases risk for both the user and the process. That’s why in this post, we’ll be highlighting a few Honeywell fixed gas detection products with Bluetooth-enabled technology: the Honeywell Sensepoint XCL Gas Detector, Honeywell Sensepoint XRL Gas Detector, and the Honeywell Searchzone Sonik Ultrasonic Gas Leak Detector.

Industrial and Commercial Bluetooth Applications

First, let’s talk briefly about Bluetooth capabilities in commercial and industrial settings. Why is it important? What are the advantages of a Bluetooth-enabled device in a gas leak application? To put it simply, Bluetooth is a technology that enables devices to exchange information wirelessly. In everyday life, this technology is commonly used with smartphones, tablets, and wireless headsets. In the gas industry, this means communicating with your fixed detection system at a safer distance from what can sometimes be a hazardous area. It also makes for a quick, reliable solution to configuring device settings. Being able to use your mobile device to adjust settings, select alarm points, and view gas concentrations in real-time makes for a safer environment and saves you the time needed to hook up a wired connection or navigate logistics around working at height of your process. The XCL, XRL, and Searchzone Sonik are all Bluetooth-enabled devices. Below, we’ll review a few feature highlights of each.

The Honeywell Searchzone Sonik Ultrasonic Gas Leak Detector is an SIL 2 certified, factory calibrated hazardous area ultrasonic detector designed to alert to ultrasonic sound pressure level changes produced by highly-pressurized gas leaks. This device, too, comes with a mobile app that connects to the device via Bluetooth. As mentioned in the datasheet, the mobile app serves as the primary tool for configuring this detector.

Searchzone Sonik Bluetooth App Highlights:

  • View Alarm History & Set Alarms
  • View Access Logs
  • Set Maintenance Flags
  • Run Output Tests
  • View & Export Diagnostics
  • View & Edit Detector Settings
