Importance of Reliable Light Sources

When it comes to turbidity measurement, light is key. When purchasing the HF Scientific MTOL+ Turbidity Meter, the user can choose between an infrared light (860nm LED) or a white light source (krypton gas filled). Per the manufacturer’s datasheet, the latter has a life expectancy of up to 5-7 years and they recommend white light “for use in turbidimeters reporting results under US EPA 180.1 (US standard) jurisdiction.” The LED IR light “is recommended for use in turbidimeters reporting results under ISO 7027 (European standard) jurisdiction. Infrared light is also recommended for some wastewater final effluent and industrial applications where color is present in the sample stream.”

Low Maintenance

The MTOL+ was designed with the end user in mind. The MTOL+ comes standard with:

  • an isolated 4-20mA output
  • a 30ml sample chamber
  • 2 programmable high/low/error alarms
  • 2% or ±0.02 accuracy (0 to 40 NTU) or 5% or ±0.02 accuracy (40 to 1000 NTU) and
  • simultaneous Modbus and 4-20mA outputs

A few of its low-maintenance design features include ultrasonic auto-cleaning, customizable USB data logging, and easy menu navigation via the keypad display. Plus, the turbidimeter comes factory calibrated out of the box.

Quick, Simple Calibration

Last, but certainly not least, perhaps the greatest feature of the MTOL+ is its ability to be calibrated quickly and easily. Per the manufacturer, calibration is accomplished using small volumes of reusable primary standards, and calibration of the MTOL+ can be executed via the on-screen menu without disrupting the sample flow. You can shop online for the HF Scientific Primary Calibration Kit here. In conjunction with the HF Scientific M100+ Laboratory Turbidimeter, the date and time of your most recent calibration can be stored and accessed easily for quick reference.

In summary, HF Scientific brings reliable, low-cost, and simple calibration options to the turbidimeter space that last years in your process. Check out their other products here or check out the datasheet and other resources below.
