Carlo Gavazzi RHS heatsinks are used to dissipate the heat generated from solid state relays. Generally made of aluminum, Carlo Gavazzi RHS heatsinks are fins of various shapes and sizes. The size of the heatsink is referencing its efficiency in heat conduction. Expressed in units of C°/W or Kelvin/W, the rate of heat conduction is proportional to the difference in temperature between the heat source and its surroundings. While in most instances a heatsink is required, each application must be examined to determine the nature of the heatsinking. In some applications, only the metal back plate is required, while in others, a large finned heatsink with or without forced cooling is required. The higher the load current and the higher the ambient temperature, the larger the heatsink (lower the thermal resistance).
In choosing a Carlo Gavazzi RHS heatsinks, there are 2 parameters of your application you need to know:
Using the following thermal charts, determine the thermal resistance value required for the SSR being used. Now select a Carlo Gavazzi RHS heatsink that has that rating or better (better would be a heat sink with a smaller thermal resistance value, less resistance equals a larger heat sink capable of dissipating more heat):
Contact Instrumart for other heatsink options. We also have a complete family of relays with built-in heatsinks that can be DIN-rail or chassis mounted.
