The Watlow F4T Process Controller with INTUITION™ offers a wide range of field removable I/O modules for maximum design flexibility. Configurations can be custom tailored to meet the scaling needs of a tremendous range of equipment and applications while providing exactly the hardware types required for compatibility. The F4T controller also features a 4.3 inch, color, graphical touch panel. Combining power, flexibility and functionality, this new controller offers unmatched versatility, and its best-in-class ease-of-use could very well make user manuals a thing of the past.

The F4T features temperature PID, over/under-temperature limit, power switching, math, logic, timers and counters combined into one integrated system. The unit is also provided with algorithms for temperature, cascade, altitude, humidity and compressor. Many communications options are available including Ethernet Modbus® TCP and SCPI and EIA232/485 Modbus® RTU. The modular design adapts to evolving requirements.

Cascade Control with Temperature Uniformity Control

The Background: Our customer is a powder coating facility looking to gain better control when heating their powder tanks.

The Problem: The customer uses a dual loop temperature controller when heating the powder in its tank prior to application. The inner loop is often hotter as the outer loop heats up more slowly. This creates a large temperature difference across the vessel which negatively impacts the quality of the powder in the tank.

The Solution: The Watlow F4T process controller with cascade control and comparison process block logic allows the heater to only work if the inner and outer loops are within 15° of each other. If the inner loop heats up too quickly in comparison, the logic will temporarily turn of the heater so the solution can uniformly stabilize.

Controlling Three Independent Heaters in a Furnace

The Background: Our customer is a manufacturing facility that heat treats products using a vertical furnace consisting of three independent heaters. They need a means to provide accurate temperature control over these three heaters.

The Problem: Each of the three heaters runs independently of the others and each use a different temperature profile. Coordinating these heaters is crucial to the effectiveness of the heat treating.

The Solution: We recommended the Watlow F4T Process Controller which features up to four control loops and combines temperature PID, over/under-temperature limit, power switching, math, logic, timers and counters combined into one integrated system.

Using F4T for Sanitizer Control Using ORP and Flow Sensor

The Background: The customer, a water treatment company, needs to control the release of chlorine dioxide, a sanitizer, to treat the water used as part of an industrial process.

The Problem: Maintaining the desired ORP level is complicated by varying flow rates so that dosing levels cannot be determined by ORP measurements alone.

The Solution: A Watlow F4T Process Controller provides the multi-loop control necessary to precisely dose the chlorine dioxide to maintain desired ORP levels. The flow rate, as determined by a variety of GF Signet flow sensors, is used as the outer loop and the ORP levels, as measured by a GF Signet 2725 ORP Electrode, provide the fine tuning of sanitizer dosing.
