Description

The Isotech Pegasus 4853 dry block calibrator offers extreme high temperature calibration in an easy to use portable package, ideal for the calibration of high temperature thermocouples. It has been designed for fast heating and finds applications in the glass, electrical power, automotive and material processing industries.

A Blackbody target can be added for the calibration of infrared thermometers. It is used with a specially angled Type R thermocouple that sits immediately behind the target area.

The standard insert has four 8mm pockets 80mm deep. The metal insert is strategically placed beneath 50mm of insulation to provide optimal performance over the radiant temperature range.

The Pegasus comes in three models, Basic, Site, and Advanced. The Basic has a digital display of set and nominal temperature, the Site additionally includes a built-in independent temperature indicator for a reference probe. The Advanced controller has inputs for reference and test thermometers with a further range of sophisticated features including automatic temperature cycling, secure data logging and full color high resolution display.

Here's how some of our customers use this product...

Calibration of Type-K Thermocouples

The Background: Our customer is a manufacturer that uses a number of high temperature ovens in their process. The temperature of these ovens is monitored by Type-K thermocouples. The customer seeks a way to calibrate these thermocouples.

The Problem: The customer has been having issues with the accuracy of the Type-K thermocouples they use to monitor the ovens. Until now the customer has been using a thermocouple simulator to test the controllers running the ovens. These simulators are not providing the accuracy needed by the customer

The Solution: We recommended using the Isotech Pegasus 4853 dry block calibrator to verify the accuracy of the furnace. The Pegasus 4853 provides a true calibration of the probe and controller used on the ovens. After performing calibrations, the customer found that some of the controllers were set to the wrong thermocouple type and some of the thermocouples had electrical shorts in them.
