The GE Inspection Technologies DM5E ultrasonic thickness gauges have been designed for operation in harsh working environments like Oil & Gas (pipelines, pressure vessels & storage tanks), Petrochemical and Power Generation. The DM5E comes in three models: DM5E Basic, DM5E and DM5E DL.

The DM5E Basic features a rugged housing, ergonomical design and long battery life (60 hours) - all in a lightweight, handheld package. The backlit LCD display and watertight/dust-proof membrane keypad incorporate function and arrow keys for easy one-hand use. Other features include Min/Max capture, B-Scan generation, alarms and differential thickness measurement to compare measured and nominal thickness.

The DM5E comes in the same rugged package and includes the same features as the DM5E Basic, while adding "DUAL MULTI" operating mode. This feature allows users to measure the thickness of metal through coatings - no need to remove the coating at the measuring point. The DM5E Basic is field-upgradeable to the DM5E. This model is also available in a kit that includes a DA501 probe and cable.

The DM5E DL adds a built-in data logger that holds up to 50,000 readings and supports grid-style data file formats. Transfer files to a PC via the Mini USB port. Use the included macro to import file into Microsoft Excel for analysis and reporting. The DM5E Basic and DM5E are both field-upgradeable to the DM5E DL.

Boiler Inspection

The Background: Our customer is an industrial facility that needs to undertake an annual inspection of their industrial boiler tubes to identify any pitting or thinning due to corrosion.

The Problem: In a large facility, there are a lot of boiler tubes that need to be inspected so an efficient method is required. Given the size and location of the tubes, visual inspections via borescopes are impractical.

The Solution: We suggested the GE Inspection Technologies DM5E ultrasonic thickness gauge with a DA501 probe kit. The DM5E is designed for operating in harsh working environments and can quickly identify areas where pitting or thinning has occurred.
